Iain Ferguson

Iain Ferguson was born in Scotland in 1935, in the then notoriously violent Gorbals - an overcrowded slum district in the city of Glasgow. Both his parents were native Gaelic speakers, from the Hebridean Isle of Skye. With the outbreak of World War Two, it was to Skye that the author was dispatched, as a child evacuee, to the safekeeping of his maternal grandparents. During this formative five year period, he discovered his roots and established an enduring passion for the Gaelic race, their language and their culture. Back in Glasgow, the author studied at The Glasgow School of Art.

This was followed by a period of ‘restlessness’ and a general loss of direction. With a view to bringing life back under control, the author then gained entry to Headington College, Oxford, from where he graduated as an architect – at the grand old age of 35! Thereafter, virtually all of his architectural career was conducted in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, he raced several British machines, as an amateur, during the mid/late 1950s. (The attached photograph shows him with his Ducati, circa 2014)

Iain author currently lives, in retirement with his wife, in the Scottish West Highlands.
