I was born and raised in Manhattan, and now live in Silver Spring, Maryland, with my daughter and our cat, Neko-chan. I was born and raised in New York City and graduated from Bryn Mawr College and Georgetown Law School. My daughter and I lived in Hiroshima for a year in 1987-88 and have visited Japan many times since.
After being a voracious reader all my life, I thought it would be a lot easier than it proved to write! I spent 30+ years learning how to tell this story that is at once a unique historical perspective and a deeply personal family story.
Over a long career as an attorney, I litigated for the U.S. Department of Justice, represented migrant farmworkers and abused children, and have now served for fourteen years as an administrative appellate judge for the federal government, although my writing is my own and does not represent any government agency.
I cannot carry a tune or follow a recipe. (Oh well!) I attend Quaker meeting and run a book table there. i love learning about different cultures through books and travel.
