I am Theodore Niretac Tinker—a trans author who fights for justice and equality through his books and explores the weird and whimsical in his short stories.
My career as an author has been as long and winding as my books tend to be, with just as much character and spiritual growth. My style as an author, my community, and my writing have all evolved since I put my first story out into the world.
The same goes for my identity. I originally began publishing under the name Dorothy Tinker, and it’s only been since then that I have accepted my truth and come out as trans. Eventually, my publisher, Balance of Seven, and I plan to republish my first three books under Theodore Niretac Tinker, but for now, you can find them, as well as eleven short stories and five poems, under the pen name Dorothy Tinker.
But what, exactly, do I write?
I write speculative fiction, with a specialization in fantasy. However, I don’t just write adventures. In my books, I dive into worlds and people and explore the struggle to do what is right, to fight prejudice and oppression. I explore the desire to cling to the status quo and the determination to obliterate it that can be born of facing the truth.
I am also a world-builder and a lover of the weird and whimsical. Even as I explore the depths of the active struggle for peace in my books, I use short stories to dive into a multitude of worlds and explore a quirkier, often lighter expression of my art.
