David Carney has enjoyed two separate careers, first as a professional musician, serving on the faculties of the Oberlin Conservatory and the Boston University School of Music. In 1980, his career underwent a significant change, and he completed studies for a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, after which he worked first as a computer programmer and later served on the Research Staff at Carnegie Mellon’s Software Engineering Institute in Pittsburgh, PA.
He has delivered keynote addresses at technical conferences in Pittsburgh, New Orleans, and Paris, and was a guest lecturer at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. As a writer, he has published over seventy technical papers and several book chapters on software engineering topics, and is completing a survey of significant historical documents. His interest in the French language has been lifelong; he is also presently working on a French-Scottish Lexicon.
After retiring, he moved to Santa Fe, NM, and presently lives in Palm Springs, CA.
