Sharon Maynard-Burrows

Sharon Maynard-Burrows was born and brought up in West Sussex, England. She started out working in an animal rescue centre then went onto work in the security sector gaining her heavy goods driving licences. In the late 90's she became the first female tug driver for British Airways at Gatwick Airport which involved moving aircraft into position around the airfield. After nearly 20 years working at Gatwick Airport she left to work with the local council driving road sweepers.

It was her time working at Gatwick Airport which inspired the making of the Chocks Away series. Before the terrible of events of 9/11 there used to be an official viewing area in which the public could see goings on around the airfield. This area has now been closed for security reasons and you can only get the odd glimpse of the action depending on where you are in the airport.

The Chocks Away series looks to give children an insight into how the airport in run by bringing to life in a fun and colourful way all the pieces of equipment used to get the aeroplanes ready for arrival and take off.

Sharon is married and currently live in Birmingham with her wife Caroline and two pets Angus and Molly.
