I grew up in beautiful Santa Cruz, California, an idyllic setting for grade school and high school. College and graduate school led to the job I loved: researching brain areas for love, sex, and commitment. Working ten years as a research biochemist at Stanford Medical Center and Stanford Research Institute, I was fascinated by the brain's complex capabilities.

Family responsibilities took over and I switched to working at home as data analyst, still mesmerized by the power of sex to detonate lives. Sex can blow up marriages, break hearts, even bring down governments. Nature's little joke? Put our fierce sex drive in one brain area. Put our desperate longing for commitment in a different area and watch the two battle it out.
