Robert R Amon Jr

The oldest of three children, Bob Amon grew up in Linden, NJ and attended college in the Midwest. He enlisted in the U.S. Army’s Officer Candidate School and became a 2nd lieutenant in 1968.

The following year, at the height of the Vietnam War, he commanded a five-man team of combat advisors in the Mekong Delta near the infamous U-Minh Forest, a heavily contested Vietcong stronghold.

He kept a diary throughout that year-long tour and “Rice Roots” is the culmination of fifty years of careful examination and introspection of the diary entries.

A heartwarming summary of his return to Hoa Quan Village in Vietnam was published in “Chicken Soup for the Veteran’s Soul” in 2000 and 2012 and is now narrated in full detail in the final chapter in “Rice Roots.”

Bob and his wife, Carolyn, are retired and live in Beach Haven, New Jersey in the summer and St. Augustine, Florida in the winter, affording them the pleasure of spending lots of time with their seven grandchildren.
