I've been playing drums since I was 15 years old and thinking about music for as long as I can remember. I don't know which passion was born in me first, music or writing. What I have carried inside me since I was in my mother's womb, is the desire to transmit.
And so, with all these passions, pouring out of every pore of my body, I have reached my 48 years, swollen with drums, music, lyrics and passion.
MassBateria was born about 9 years ago, as a consequence of all my passions, but I needed it to come into my life, the detonator of everything that means my life now.
Fer was the spark that ignited and turned my life around, which went from being shades of gray, to shine with all the brightness of all the colors of the rainbow, the reddest of course.
From that moment, the portal for all Spanish-speaking drummers, called MassBateria, was born.
Then later, the Youtube channel was born and now, very recently, the podcast, because I've always liked to do radio. That's where I do well.
In MassBateria you can find, test benches, lessons, suggestions, my own opinions and thoughts about any aspect of drumming and also, interviews. Lots of interviews.
One of the things I like to do the most, is to talk, with a coffee in front of me, with drummers and other musicians and learn about their musical and life experiences, and then, with their permission, I can transmit them to the four winds, through my media, MassBateria.
MassBateria has been through many, famous and not famous and people, who later became known.
At the same time that MassBateria was growing, I was playing in more and more bands, I was starting with my first students (although I didn't believe in myself yet) and the general lines were forming in my head, where to sustain my classes. My most basic principles.
When I began to study rhythmic solfège, it was quite difficult for me to understand all the figures and the distance between them, since, in percussion, a beat always lasts the same when we play it, but when it comes to transcribing it, it is not like that.
With these mental obstacles, it was quite difficult for me to learn to play the drums. I believe that my determination to play was more important than my difficulty to learn.
I am not saying that the same thing happens to everyone, but I do know that there is a large percentage of people who give up their illusion of playing the drums because they believe they are not qualified.
For all of them was born, "Playing the drums is not so difficult", with a simple concept, but that, undoubtedly, would have helped me a lot if it had existed in my beginnings.
Just as there are several languages, in music, we can use shortcuts or "crutches", so that the beginning of learning is not so hard and at the same time, begin to familiarize ourselves with the signs and measures of musical notation, in our case, rhythmic solfege.
For that, I thought of using a resource that, although it was already known, nobody applied it in the way it is implemented in the book. I have baptized it with the name of Blocks, and it is a tab, which is located just below each pattern written in musical notation. So that each note corresponds exactly with its corresponding tab, both the figures that sound, as well as their rests.
Thus, you can start playing practically from the first minute, once the mechanics are explained to you and later, with the confidence generated by your progress, understand and comprehend, through comparison, the traditional musical notation.
This method is ideal to introduce by any teacher, the study of binary drum rhythms, to any type of student.
Because, in addition, the proposed rhythms, are the most common in pop or rock. The difficulty is increasing because we will be varying in each chapter, the line of hi hat or ride, arriving to execute quite complicated ostinatos.
