About John R. Fincher
A Circuitous Route
I will always remember my 11th grade English teacher who wrote on one of my submitted homework assignments that she graded A+, “You should consider writing as a profession!” I took a circuitous route of entrepreneurship but one of my previous businesses was an advertising and marketing company in which I did copywriting and thus did use writing in my profession. My main profession today is helping people sell their companies but I do use writing as a creative outlet – having written children’s books, a Christian fiction book and numerous songs over the years.
Themes
I believe that well written books not only entertain but have the opportunity to teach valuable life lessons. My first children’s book Broken Wings & Mended Dreams teaches reconciliation and peace. This book has traveled to Kenya having been translated into Swahili and used by an organization called PHARP – Peace Building, Healing and Reconciliation Program. Hooray for Pete and His Many Feet, my second children’s book, teaches that it is OK to be individually different. Sometimes trying to fit in at the expense of not being who you are can lead to unwanted outcomes. A Golfer’s Beatitude was written to explain what Jesus preached in his Sermon on the Mount known as The Beatitudes. This book draws on my enjoyment of playing golf and my enjoyment of mission trips to the Agalta Valley in Honduras.
Home & Family
I currently reside in Austin, Texas along with my wife Debbie and we’ve been happily married since 1976. We are currently blessed with two wonderful sons and their wives who have provided us with four grandchildren. I like to read the grandchildren books and to see them learning from their adventures into literature.
