In my early 30's I discovered I had been blessed with the ability to write poems on demand. I would create poems for family occasions, birthdays, holidays & milestones. I would also create poems for friends. The poems became so popular with my family, they expected a poem be written for all special occasions.
Using my background in chemistry and biology and my compassion for children I decided to write a book that would help eliviate some of the fears and pain children often experience while going to the doctor or other stressful situations they would experience in their young lives.
My first book "I got a boo boo on my toe" consists of poems and illustrations explaining to children what they will encounter when they go to a Pediatrician. I feel it is important for older adults to have the tools needed to guide young chilren through potentially upsetting situations. "I got a boo boo on my toe" is oe of these tools. It allows the child to understand what he/she is to expect during the examination easing the stress on the Doctor as well as the child.
The next book in the doctordoctor series will attempt to help children know what to expect if they should be diagnosed with a more serious illness. This book will go into further detail about procedures such as CAT scans, MRI, IV's, different medicinal therapies and othe procedures written and designed to make more seriously ill children well. Again I will approach the subject with poems and illustrations which will enable the child to better understand the type of procedures they will encounter.
