Ella Romm

I, Ella Romm, was born in the Soviet Union in 1966. I lived there until 1993 before emigrating to the United States. My experiences growing up during immense societal and political change have shaped my perspective and fueled my writing. I am dedicated to preserving memories of that era through my books, bringing to life the untold stories of resilience, hardship, and hope.

Throughout my life, I have kept journals, recording my experiences, emotions, and thoughts on the complexities of existence. From the weight of emigration to the rawness of love, the shadow of death to the unspoken realities of sex, I have explored the subjects that people often shy away from. My writing is an honest and unfiltered account of life as I have lived it.

Born in the Soviet Union, I have witnessed a world shaped by history’s harshest realities. I write about my struggles with mental illness, the imprisonment of my relatives in the GULAG, my journey in the medical field, my life as a poet, the love affairs that have shaped me, and my encounters with antisemitism. Through my books, I capture the essence of survival and the search for meaning.

I invite you into my world, where truth is spoken, memories are preserved, and nothing is left unsaid.
