Tom Rieber

Tom lives with his wife, Kibbi, and an assortment of animals who have found their way into their home at the beach on the southeastern coast of North Carolina. They came down there to paradise sixteen years ago from the frozen tundra of Connecticut and fell in love all over again. Time moves a bit slower in the south and people seem a bit happier.

Tom started writing seriously back in the late 1980s and it was then he bought his first computer--a Radio Shack TRS80.

"I'll never forget that day I set it up, and that's when Nick was born," said Rieber in a recent interview. "Nick Thomas is me--but I might have taken a few liberties. Over the years Nick has changed as I have. I feel I am a good, loving, giving man who is grateful for all I have been blessed with. Nick is a recovering alcoholic, as am I, for many years now. I don't think I would be able to write these books had I not surrendered almost thirty years ago. I met my wife, Kibbi, in an AA meeting and she is the light of my life who pushes me through those times of doubt."

But you don't care about that. Who is Nick Thomas? Nick is on the wrong side of fifty, a few pounds overweight, with steel-gray hair, blue eyes, and a tanned face that likes to smile.

His protagonist, Nick, is also a mystery writer who lives in a cottage by the sea on the tip of Cape Cod. You will enjoy Nick's tongue-in-cheek humor and his penchant for getting in the middle of some very dangerous situations along with a unique cast of characters.

Tom is most inspired by beloved Florida author, John D Macdonald, who penned the great Travis MGee series in the sixties and seventies. Travis MGee was a footloose, cynical philosopher also with a white-knight syndrome, living aboard a houseboat he’d won in a card game. But MGee was the one you would want on your side when the chips were down. He was a lover, certainly not politically correct, who loved good gin and bouncing beach bunnies but tough as they come when needed.

Here's hoping you will join me in the Nick Thomas experience. They are fun reads.
