Dan Manolescu

My name is Dan Manolescu and I was born in a small German village in what is now called Romania. I grew up in a typical Transylvanian town surrounded by kids of Jewish, German, Romanian, Serbian, and Hungarian origin. When our English teacher walked into our middle school classroom, I knew right away that I was going to be an English teacher.

Upon graduation from University of Timisoara, I started teaching English in my home town, but in 1983 my wife and I came to the United States and settled down in New Jersey. I was lucky and blessed to find a job right away and taught ESL in Somerville, Jersey City, Rutherford, Madison, Teaneck, NJ and in New York City. When I retired in 2017 after teaching ESL for approximately 47 years, I managed to publish TIPS, A Guidebook for Teaching Excellence in ESL, in which I shared my knowledge accumulated during my teaching career.

What was the rationale behind this project? I liked what Toni Morrison said about writing: if you cant' find the book you want to read, you will have to write it yourself.
