Kathleen Thompson

Kathleen Thompson is a former teacher of English, and holds a BS from the University of Alabama and an MFA in Writing from Spalding University. She served as 2005 Poet of the Year for the Alabama State Poetry Society. She is the author of four books of poetry: Searching for Ambergris, Pudding House Publications, 2002; The Nights, The Days, winner of the 2008 Negative Capability Press Chapbook Series Award; The Shortest Distance, 2008, nominated for the National Book Award by Coosa River Books; and Time and Distance, 2017, Coosa River Books.

Her short stories have been published in journals such as REAL and Waypoints: An Online Journal. “Looking for the Lord” in the anthology, Christmas is a Season, 2009, Excalibur Press, was nominated for the Pushcart Prize. “Envenomation,” in the anthology, Belles Letters 2, Livingston Press, 2017, is exemplary of the spiky and spicy nature of her linked collection of short stories, a work in progress.

She has two completed mainstream novels in manuscript, and she is working on a memoir in essay. The publication of her novella, A Tale of Three Women, bridges her poetry and prose, and officially marks her a cross-genre writer.
