Zaheera Jina

Zaheera Jina holds a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. She has worked extensively with children and has a special interest in developing critical thinkers. Zaheera Jina is the editor of Saffron: A Collection of personal narratives by Muslim Women and the co-editor of Riding the Samoosa Express. Surprise! is her her first children’s book. She teaches creative writing to tweens. Tween Tales: The Adventure Begins includes the creative craft of seven children ranging in age from seven to thirteen-years-old. The collection includes all their creative writing from the creative writing course: their poetry, a description titled, “The world outside my window…” as well as a short story of 2000 words.

Zaheera Jina developed the StimuMath for Pre-Schoolers Programme. The set consists of four books: StimuMath for Pre-Schoolers Activity Book, StimuMath for Pre-Schoolers Resources Book, A Squish and a Squash (storybook) and On the Farm with Farmer Jack (storybook). The Pre-Schooler’s StimuMath Programme is aimed at children, between the ages of 3 to 6. The programme includes sixty activities which informally address the concepts of Number, Shape and Measurement through problem-solving activities. StimuMath activities include a description of the mathematics included in the activity as well as a list of questions the facilitator may use to encourage mathematical reasoning.

Zaheera currently manages a home-based StimuMath club in Johannesburg, where she lives with her husband and three sons.
