Shirley Powell

My name is Shirley Powell. I am a Co-author, Registered General Nurse, District Nurse, Professional Transitional Coach and Mentor, Entrepreneur, a dedicated Health and Well-being Specialist, a local Pastor and CEO and Founder of Your Life in Your Hands a limited company based in the UK. I was born in Bedfordshire, and raised in Suffolk, United Kingdom. I am deeply passionate about health and in my business, I offer a comprehensive health and lifestyle assessments to help my clients to live and stay well. Over the years, I have provided health and well-being advice to my patients and clients, supporting them in the management of their health care in the community and hospital settings. I also raise health awareness, empowering, and promoting self-care to those with physical, mental health and long-term conditions.

I am deeply passionate about motivating and empowering professionals, particularly female entrepreneurs, and those in corporate roles where they experience low-self-esteem, lack confidence and struggle to find their passion and balance.

I created a successful mentoring programme “Seven Steps to Transition Your Life” which helps individuals discover what lies deep within, their hidden talents, purpose, and freedom to live a flexible lifestyle.

I have a wealth of experience within the clinical and leadership arena; working in the UK National Health Service (NHS) and independent healthcare sector for 36 years; with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, a Bachelor’s degree and, a Master’s degree from Queen Mary University of London. From 2017 to 2019, I was nominated for several Suffolk Business Black and Ethnic Minority (BME) Awards and was a finalist in the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year and Health Champion of the Year categories.

I am recognised in my local community as an experienced health practitioner, motivational speaker, and spiritual leader. I often appear as a guest speaker at local health and community events discussing various health educational topics on healthy eating, health awareness - diabetes, managing cholesterol and blood pressure. I have also been a regular guest as health expert on the local community radio including BBC Radio Suffolk.

The title of my chapter 'Renewing Your Mind' has been chosen as it represents the transition of my mind and my perception of the person I cared for, as I had previously felt I was the conscious target of this person's constant animosity and hostility. However, although at the time it occurred it felt real, I have arrived at a place in my life where I now understand that this was not a conscious action which was deliberately taken by the individual, but one which was driven purely by her mental health illness.
