Anne Stobart

Anne Stobart is passionate about plants, especially healing plants. As an experienced medical herbalist, she led the professional degree programme for clinical herbal medicine at Middlesex University, London until 2010. She is an honorary fellow at the University of Exeter and published her research into the history of domestic medicine in Household Medicine in Seventeenth-Century England (2016). In 2025 Anne received an award from the British Society for the History of Pharmacy recognising her research and and contribution to forming the Herbal History Research Network. Learning about permaculture design proved a turning point for Anne in founding a medicinal tree and shrub project in Devon, UK, based on sustainable principles. The Medicinal Forest Garden Handbook (2020) is referenced in detail and full of practical advice. It is aimed at gardeners, growers and designers on sites from small gardens to larger woodlands. Anne's latest book is Trees and Shrubs That Heal (2023) and this includes 80 species that can be grown in temperate climates. Every tree and shrub is beautifully illustrated with useful information and suggested recipes help to promote a healthy lifestyle. Anne is developing the Medicinal Forest Garden Trust in encouraging others to grow botanical medicines for sustainable harvests and safe use.
