Kelly Johnson is a first-time author, and absolutely thrilled to offer family caregivers support with A Caregiver’s Companion. Kelly’s caregiver journey began quite suddenly when her then five-year-old son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Surgery, radiation and chemo therapy began a long journey of hospital visits, isolation and medical consultations. But, the story has a happy-ending as her son is currently “medically boring”. But it is from these experiences that Kelly’s heart and passion for caregivers began.
Johnson is Director of Adult Faith Formation at St. Mary of Gostyn Catholic Church in Downers Grove IL., active in parish and diocesan faith formation. It is at St. Mary’s that Kelly met Debra Kelsey-Davis and together they created Nourish for Caregivers, a curriculum to meet the practical, emotional and spiritual needs of family caregivers. Through the sharing the hope and healing of Christ, A Caregiver’s Companion was created.
Johnson is a member of the Catholic Family Life Association (CFLA), and on the Advisory Board for the Midwest Children’s Brain Tumor Center at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Johnson was recently recognized as a Distinguished Alumni of Loras College, Dubuque Iowa.
Kelly lives in Downers Grove with her sons and wonderful husband. She is grateful for the support of family and friends. Kelly hopes that other family caregivers may find the grace and blessings in their caregiving, and recognize that with Christ as a Companion, the caregiving journey is one of growth, fulfillment and hope.
