Gary Alan Shockley

Gary, a retired elder in the United Methodist Church, is an author, artist and spiritual director. He has worked as a pastor and Healthcare Chaplain with focused work in Hospice. It was out of decades of walking alongside people in their grief that Gary wrote and illustrated his most recent children's book, My Heart Sings a Sad Song (2024), which continues to touch the hearts of countless children and adults alike.

Gary's most recent book publication, Eldering: the Art of Graceful Aging (2025) addresses one of the most pressing needs in spiritual living today: helping people of faith transition from simply growing older to becoming elders in The Way and ways of life.

Gary lives and works in Battlement Mesa, CO with his wife Kim and dog Zoe.
