I have loved the written word from an early age. I was reading by the time I was three and understood even then that words helped us to express ideas. The public library was one of my favorite places to visit, especially as I grew older and was able to explore the world of YA literature by authors like Judy Blume and S. E. Hinton. By the time I was 14, I was publishing a quarterly newsletter and mailing it out to my subscribers.
In writing YA fiction myself, I am hoping to write the kind of stories I have always wanted to read, but I also hope to connect with my readers. I want them to care about—or sometimes hate—the characters in my fiction. If I can accomplish that, I have made my characters real.
Currently, my "day job" is working as a technical writer—in other words, I get to tell people not only what to do, but how to do it correctly. I am hoping, however, to make more time for my fiction (both adult and YA) so I can love everything that I write. Now, if you'll excuse me... I have to get cracking on the follow-up to "The Man from the Hallway" and address some of the unanswered questions from that story.
Cheers, readers.
