Ashraf M. Salama

Prof. Dr. Ashraf Salama is Professor of Architecture and Urbanism and Head of the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, and Chair in Architecture. He is also co-Director of the UNESCO/UIA Validation Council for Architectural Education. He holds Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degrees in Architecture from Al Azhar University and North Carolina State University. With over 25 years of academic leadership, he has chaired and led schools of architecture in Egypt, Qatar, and the United Kingdom. His career spans international teaching and research roles across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. He has secured over 2 million pounds in research funding and published more than 200 scholarly works, including 18 books. He also serves as Chief Editor of Archnet-IJAR: International Journal of Architectural Research since 2007, contributing significantly to global architectural education and research. Professor Salama is the UIA 2017 Recipient of Jean Tschumi Prize for Excellence in Architectural Education and Criticism.
