Arthur Desmond

New Zealander Arthur Desmond (1859-1929), was many things, author, poet, and cattle drover. He worked as a journalist, publisher, and edited publications such as "Hard Cash, " and "The Tribune."

In 1884, Desmond came from out of nowhere as the "unknown" candidate for the parliament election in Hawke's Bay but lost. Nobody knew who this "Desmond" person was. He stirred up the community being fairly radical in his political views. Promoting Henry Georges, and defended the Maoris. He lost the parliament election a second time in 1887.

Get a small fraction of antipodean history and Arthur Desmond in the new book: "Christ as a Social Reformer & Writings in Red." Read fantastic poetry and articles that caused controversy between the years 1889-1891. From labor movement articles to historic Maori translations. Union writings, bullying and gossip from way back when the "social media" was a printed newspaper.

Nowadays Arthur Desmond is probably most known for being the author behind the pseudonym Ragnar Redbeard.
