Gayle Young isn't the typical community college sophomore. For one thing, at 79 years old, she's a little older than most of her classmates. For another, she just won a 2019 Foreward INDIES award for nonfiction humor for her first book, a witty memoir entitled "Redbirds, Roses, and Ghosts" that follows her retirement writing career and the funny pitfalls that ensued. In addition, Gayle has published nostalgic pieces and short stories in newspapers and anthologies. Her newest novel, "Dirty Pink," is scheduled to be released in late August or early September.
