Josh Seim

Josh Seim is a sociologist at Boston College, where he focuses on issues related to work, medicine, welfare, punishment, and more. He also frequently writes about pedagogy and ethnographic methods.

His research has appeared in American Sociological Review, Social Problems, Sociological Methods and Research, Social Science and Medicine, Sociology of Health and Illness, Punishment and Society, Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, Critical Sociology, Teaching Sociology, and other outlets.

His first book, Bandage, Sort, and Hustle: Ambulance Crews on the Front Lines of Urban Suffering, was released in 2020 by University of California Press. His second book, The Welfare Assembly Line: Public Servants in the Suffering City, will be released by University of California Press in February 2026.
