Fred J. Stone was born and raised in South Phoenix, Arizona. After graduating high school in 1969, he joined the Army to be a helicopter mechanic/door gunner. He served a year in Viet Nam and made a deeper commitment to follow Christ in 1972.
He spent most of his 21 year Army career as a Chaplain’s assistant. During that time, in 1973 he married Fran and had 3 children (one adopted). Also he studied for civilian ministry through Berean School of the Bible; Springfield, Missouri. The “gospel-notes” began in about 1977 as a natural outflow of military ministry and outreach to soldiers. This writing ministry and additional “notes” have continued for the 40 years since then. Most Scripture references are from the Revised Standard Version because that is where he started studying Scripture in ’72. Other versions are New American Standard, New International Version and of course the venerable King James Version. Fred and Fran tend to be non-denominational, and are not endorsed by any particular group.
He and his wife have restored several homes in Oklahoma & Arizona, then got a contractor’s license and built new ones. Fred and his wife manage and maintain rental property, which they built locally.
A word about evangelism. “Evangelism is just one beggar telling another where to find bread.” D.T. Niles, New York Times, May 11, 1986 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16; RSV, Thomas Nelson & Sons, 1952
