Helen Wallimann

Helen Wallimann, the daughter of Swiss parents, grew up and went to Catholic schools in Cheltenham (England), where her father owned the Savoy Hotel. After graduating from Edinburgh University, she worked as an editorial assistant in Munich, Paris and London. In 1971 she moved to Switzerland and was employed as a teacher of French and English at the Kantonsschule Solothurn from 1973 to 2001. For two years (1989-90 and 2002-03) she taught English at Chinese universities. She attended classes on Chinese language and literature at Zurich University for many years and is the translator of several articles and poems that appeared in academic publications. Her translations from German include three novels by her husband, Erhard von Büren. She is the author of A Visit to Gansu Province for the Chinese New Year. A Diary.
