Alan B. Havis grew up in Michigan surrounded by the Great Lakes and as a child developed a fascination with nature, specifically with bodies of water, having spent his summers on the sleepy shores of Lake Michigan. As the son of an architect, Alan was raised in a family that emphasized art and creativity and he won a National Scholastic Art award for Jewelry in 1977. Alan’s pursuit of his love of art and creation continues to this day as he designs and creates in both two dimensional and three dimensional mediums. Alan also enjoyed writing from a young age and at age twenty-three he became a lawyer and litigator honing his wordsmithing craft as a writer and editor of thousands of legal briefs throughout his career.
Alan now has combined his love of the written word with his artistic and creative talents and his love of nature, and transitioned into the world of children’s book writing. Inspired by his partner, Alice B. McGinty, a seasoned and accomplished children’s book writer, Alan and Alice have combined to author The Sea Knows, where science is combined with that childhood wonder with nature which is in all of us.
