Marco Bernardi

Marco Bernardi was born in Rome in 1964.

In 1982, as soon as he graduated, he enrolled in the degree course in Economics and Commerce of La Sapienza and at the same time began working in the family business.

In 1986 he definitively interrupted his university studies and served as a volunteer in the Carabinieri.

In 1988 he starts practicing Karate-do, Shito-ryu style, of which he will become II Dan black belt, winning several fighting tournaments and teaching it for many years.

In 1991 he participated in various amateur off-road competitions, in the endurance category and, driving his Suzuki Santana 413 JX, he won a two-day night tour.

In 1993, he obtained the sailing and motor boat license, with no navigation limits.

In 1996 he bought the Zub’g’bi, the sailing boat with which he would sail up and down the Tyrrhenian Sea for almost fifteen years. Those sailing experiences will give him the opportunity to write his first stories, published by the monthly magazines Nautica and Bolina.

Since 1998 he has participated, for some years, in the regattas of the winter sailing championships at Riva di Traiano, as a member of the crew of the Daf, a Canados 33.

In 2004 he took part, live on Rai 1, in Scommettiamo che? with a bet on socks, a sector in which the family business has been operating for decades.

In 2008 he created Full Fighting, a martial arts format that he will teach for several years.

In 2010, he starts writing poems and one of them will also be cited by other authors. In the summer of that same year, at a turning point in his life, he left for a lonely cruise on his sailboat. The sensations experienced in those days will be widely used in the stories that he will publish later.

At the end of that same year he began, almost by chance, to study Argentine tango, immediately being captivated by the poetry and the intensity of the emotions it transmits.

In 2011 he ran his first Rome Marathon.

In 2012 he published Alea iacta est, his debut novel.

In 2013, he published his second novel: Panta rei, incroci in alto mare.

In 2016 he runs his fifth Rome Marathon.

In 2017, together with his partner Elisabetta, he took part in the L’Eroica cyclist, using old bikes from the 1950s without gears and with rod brakes, which he himself had overhauled.

At the end of 2017 he published L’Ulisse che perse la rotta, an anthology of four stories that form an entire life cycle of the protagonist.

In 2018 he received the special prize Borracce di poesia, within the literary competition Il Bicicletterario, with his work Carne e metallo.

In 2019 he returns to Karate competitions, in the specialty of kumité (combat), ranking first in the regional FIK of Lazio, veterans category. He also completed his tenth Roma Ostia (half marathon), this time together with his partner Elisabetta.

In March 2020 he publishes Il Caos, a dreamlike and visionary story, written six years earlier.

In the August 2020 issue, Nautica magazine publishes its sixth short story: Virata in cappa.

In November 2020 he participates, as unknown, in the transmission conducted by Amadeus "I soliti ignoti".

His new book is being published in April 2021: L'estate dell'84, a story of one crazy and youth summer.

In May 2022 is being published his sixth book: La teoria dell'uragano.

In May 2025 is being published: La collina delle spighe d'orzo, a story of a family decade.

His books have been reviewed by various monthly magazines, including Nautica, Fare vela, Le Fiamme d’Argento and various blogs.

His approach to life is contained in this short aphorism: the past is just a curriculum, the present is action, the future is dream.
