Misi McFarland

Misi McFarland – aka Gramma Greenbrier – was born smack dab in the heart of the Ozarks, on a dirt road so far from any town that you could turn cream into butter in a jar on the backseat getting there. She never quite took root. Blame it on generations of pioneer ancestors; she had the wanderlust, and has spent a lifetime picking up sticks to see new places and try new things.

A love of nature and wildlife has been her constant companion. Bats of Central America, bivalves of the Caribbean, German hedgehogs, Missouri barn owls – she’s gonna stop mid-whatever to see about it. Never swat a critter from her person. It belongs there until it decides it doesn’t.

Misi writes in her own voice, always – even when norms require some weird third-person nonsense. Folks say she’s “direct and to the point, makes good clear sense, and has a good style of mixing the science and anecdote of the subject in a way that includes less knowledgeable readers without dumbing down the material,” and that she is “an educated writer using words with intent.” If you’re from the Midwest, you’ll feel at home within the pages of her books. If you are not, you may yet find them refreshingly quaint.

Gramma Greenbrier is currently working on the first in a series of old fashioned children’s storybooks. Each will feature a different critter inhabiting the forest of Greenbrier Farm.
