Maurice Martin graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1970 and served as an AF rescue helicopter pilot in the US, Vietnam, and Greenland. Following active duty, he taught "Military Ethics and Justice" for college ROTC students as an Air Force Reservist and completed his service with the rank of Major. He attended Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis and, upon graduation in 1982, he flew as an emergency medical helicopter pilot with Air Methods Corporation, eventually becoming Vice President for Operations. He continued in this role until being called as Executive Pastor at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church (CCPC) in Denver where he served for a number of years. In 2004, the church "lent" Martin to Food for the Hungry (FH), an international relief and development organization. He worked two years as Food for the Hungry's Country Director in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2007 he resumed his pastoral responsibilities while also serving as an FH board member. In 2011, Martin became Chief Operating Officer for Food for the Hungry and continued there until retiring as acting CEO in 2014. Since then he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Ethics at Cleveland State Community College in Tennessee. He and his wife, Rosemary, have been married more than forty years and have three married children and five grandchildren.
