Mordred "Red" Staak is a native of central Kentucky. He spent much of his youth in the expansive farm fields near his home and grew to deeply admire natural wonders. Like many boys of rural Kentucky, he was well versed in fishing, hunting, and camping. Those activities were reinforced while visiting his grandparents in the mountains of Pike County, KY. Mordred also enjoyed a mix of sports including judo, basketball, and baseball. In school he was a day-dreaming underachiever. However, his creative aptitude always showed through and his habit of scribbling humorous rhymes eventually bloomed into serious writing. Upon entering college at Eastern Kentucky University, Mordred found the study of Philosophy and Religion to be a great well of inspiration to his writing and he formally majored in both. At graduation he was awarded the Department Award for Religious Studies. That same year he experienced his first publication in EKU's annual anthology, AURORA. Mordred Staak's previous works include poetry and short stories with a focus on artful language and moral imperatives. He also posthumously published a memoir penned by his father prior to a sudden death. He is currently focused on a suspense-thriller series, AUDACIOUS EXPLOITS of a WEEKEND WARRIOR, which follows the struggle of Charles Ward to rise above his dull suburban life and connect to the grit of the mountain-men of his ancestry.
