Barry Howard

Since 2017, Barry Howard has been the chief financial and administrative officer (CFAO) at New America, with over twenty-five years of experience in the non-profit operational and financial sectors.

Prior to his time at New America, Barry was the chief financial officer (CFO), and a senior vice president, at World Relief (2007-2016), an international relief and development agency working directly in over 25 countries, headquartered in Baltimore, Md. He has extensive experience in international operations, and has traveled to over sixty countries during his career. In the past, Barry has held numerous board roles on international microfinance institutions, and has successfully monetized several at capital inflection points.

Prior to his time at World Relief, Howard was the chief financial officer (CFO) and vice president at YWAM, a relief and development agency with over eighty offices throughout North America. The organization facilitates short-term relief and development work abroad in some of the most remote and inaccessible regions around the globe. Howard assumed the CFO role in 1996 at the Denver, Colo. operating location, at the age of 25.

Barry is an antiquarian book collector, competitive chess player, and genealogist. He has traveled to over sixty countries during his career. Over the past two decades, Barry has served in varying capacities on the boards of several humanitarian organizations, international banking institutions (MFIs), as well as historic and civic nonprofit organizations. Barry is an Eagle Scout, and a member of the Society of the Cincinnati.

Barry holds an MBA from Johns Hopkins University and a BS in business administration from Regis University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He has completed postgraduate studies as Harvard Business School. Barry and his wife, Amie, have four children and reside in northern Maryland.
