My name is Penny Dean. I am a disabled veteran from the United States Army with 22 years of service. I retired as a Master Sergeant. I believe in cause and effect. You cause a problem be ready for the effect. Managers and supervisors decided to mistreat me because I stepped up and spoke out about a supervisor speaking negative about my supervisor in front of 67 employees at a conference my first week on the job. There were many years of mistreatment to bring me down. I went all the way up my chain of command to the former President of the United States for help and received no help to stop the mistreatment until I was forced to retire due to my health.
I wanted to get my word out on how I was treated in the workplace to help other employees that were going through the same or similar situations. I heard a voice from God saying write a book. I am not a writer. I had no idea how to write a book. In 2014 and 2015, I decided to stay at my timeshare to begin writing my book. Both times I was angry because how I was treated. I could not write. I prayed and prayed and prayed until one morning in 2016, I woke up around 3:00 a.m., to thoughts and ideas that were running through my head. I could not believe it. I got up and started writing. The thoughts were coming so fast, I had to get my computer, and I was on my way. I finally listened to my heart, to what God was saying and became an author of my book, Consequences for Stepping Up and Speaking Out. I hope there will be a change to hold supervisors and managers accountable for their actions against employees, and I hope change will take place.
