Wilson Roberts

Born and raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Wilson Roberts is a storyteller who spent ten years chasing ballads and folk tales in the North Carolina mountains, taught school in the far reaches of the Adirondacks, lived on Long Beach Island in New Jersey and later on St. John in the Virgin Islands. He is currently surviving winters in the hills of western Massachusetts.

The settings for his novels are as diverse as his experiences, his characters representative of the many places he lived and the people he has known: North Country trappers and hunters; Carolina banjo players and fiddlers; serpent handling Tennessee preachers; Caribbean sailors, restaurant workers, musicians, cops and criminals; an itinerant 19th century actor determined to grow up with the nation, who ends up in John Ford's first full-length movie; two brothers from Lubbock, Texas who set up an intentional community in a western Massachusetts hill town; a small town Pennsylvania police chief who arrests a murder suspect and forty years later is troubled by his belief that an innocent man was convicted and executed; losers and winners and small-time sinners, ordinary women and men who are extraordinary in the ways that all human beings are extraordinary as they struggle to find ways to prevail in a chaotic world.
