Kunio Hara

Kunio Hara is a music professor who writes about music and nostalgia, Puccini's operas, and postwar music in Japan. His first book "Joe Hisaishi's Soundtrack for My Neighbor Totoro" examines the collaborative process between the composer, Hisaishi, and the director, Miyazaki Hayao, in the creation of their popular anime classic, "My Neighbor Totoro." The book explores concepts such as nostalgia, nature, and the Japanese identity as they are manifested in sound and image in the film.
