Beth Urich

Beth Urich was born in Kansas City, Kansas, a few years before Dwight D. Eisenhower became President of the United States. She attended school in Wyandotte County through the eighth grade before being uprooted and thrust into pre-Disney World Orlando, Florida—not then a teen-friendly location.

When she graduated from Robinson High School in Tampa in 1965, girls weren’t exactly encouraged to attend college. She opted to enlist in the US Air Force, primarily to get a college degree through the GI Bill. As a bonus, the USAF prepared her for a career in computer programming.

After 8 years in the Air Force, a 16-year career in the Washington DC area, and a bit of traveling, she relocated to Branson, MO. The small town wasn’t “the” Branson quite yet, but it would soon be on its way. The construction boom and rapid growth in Branson during the 1990s would inspire Beth’s “Kate Starling Mysteries” series.

As for most struggling authors, the road to publication was long and often discouraging. Although she actively pursued a career throughout the 1990s, her efforts decreased in this century. As her day job took over her life, beginning in 2003, her writing career took a back seat until her retirement in 2014.

Thrilled to finally see her first book of the “Kate Starling Mysteries” series in print in March 2020, she’s awaiting publication of the second book, scheduled for March 2021, and working on the next book in the series. In addition to writing Beth enjoys bowling, volunteering, and taking care of her Miniature Pinscher, Lilly, who shares her home in Branson.
