Hi everyone. Let me introduce myself as a third age person and a late starter, or I should say finisher. I started scribbling when I was at school forging the first foundation of my obsession with books. I still have that obsession and because I cannot part with a book I have read and enjoyed I have hundreds of books in my very small flat. There's not enough time for me in the world to read my list of must reads.
Busy trying to find my way in the world I didn't start writing seriously until in my 50s I sold my house and took a round the world trip with no plans except flying to Hong Kong as a starter.
Cutting short into the story I passed through and stayed in Tahiti for a while. I determined to return which I did after reading the book In the South Seas by Robert Louis Stevenson. I spent 4 months out there, mostly in Samoa where he eventually lived and died. He became my second obsession and on my eventual return home spent several years reading about him, his life, and follow personally even more of his travels. ie. His home town Edinburgh, France, America, Australia and the South Seas. I was most interested in his life story more than his writings although I became very familiar with his 2500 surviving letters. Eventually came the story, not a biography but fiction. I couldn't get it published and it laid dusty on the shelf until recently, when I was motivated with the glory which is Kindle publishing, re-edited the text and there it is The Love Affair, on Amazon. Concentrating on his relationship with his wife, it's fun and sad, and good, please read it.
I have a beautiful daughter and son-in-law, with two equally beautiful grandchildren, a boy and girl just nearing the end of their university time. I am happy to say that they are always interested in what I am doing. I love cats and my latest is a lovely Bengal, aging like me.
I travel whenever I can, to unusual places, like Russia, the Arctic, Greenland and Iceland and write excessive travel articles which sometimes get published, I shall put them all in a book and do it on Kindle. More next time, please read my book. Thank you. Karen
