Russ Crawford

Russ Crawford is a fifty year veteran of Canadian agriculture. His skill in research and love of a good story have combined to create works of historical fiction. His accumulation of work experience, extensive reading for work and recreation and a long delayed desire to create his own novels has recently materialized.

My working career in agriculture started when I got a job with Cargill Ltd., one of the largest and most successful grain companies in the world. What followed was a twenty-year education process and the formation and evolution of me as a professional commodity trader. From there I moved to the Alberta Wheat Pool and helped turn out the lights on one of the largest farmer-owned and operated prairie co-operatives – not my fault, just my job. I started a successful independent risk management consulting practice that I still operate today, some twenty years later.

Always an avid reader, the urge to write my own book finally took hold at the encouragement and collaboration of my three sons, creative writers and artists themselves. I found an interesting way to adapt my honed skills for research and take full advantage of strong editing and proof reading to craft my first book, "Canadian Samurai". "Limit Up" followed one year later. It’s a story I’ve wanted to tell since I began working in the grain industry. "Western Barley's Legacy" is a commissioned work which I was very proud to undertake. It’s a tribute to Canadian farmers – some of the greatest people on earth.

I'm not finished writing yet. There's more to this journey!
