Dr. David Koppenhaver Ph.D.

David Koppenhaver, Ph.D., is a professor in the Reading Education and Special Education Department at Appalachian State University. A former middle grades classroom language arts teacher, as a doctoral student he co-founded the Center for Literacy and Disability Studies, https://www.med.unc.edu/ahs/clds/, with David Yoder at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1990. His research addresses literacy assessment and instruction of students with a wide variety of significant disabilities including autism, intellectual disabilities, complex communication needs, Rett syndrome, Williams syndrome, and multiple disabilities.
