Summit Math Geometry | A Guided Discovery Workbook

Alex has been helping kids learn for over 20 years. Since 2011, he has taught at The Pingry School in Basking Ridge, NJ, and received 2 teaching awards. In 2013, he started writing textbooks to help students learn at different paces. In 2017, he founded Summit Math — named to reflect that learning is like hiking. With effort and persistence, anyone can reach the summit, each at their own pace.

Born in Mukinge, Zambia, Alex moved to Chattanooga, TN at age 5 after his father died in a car accident. Grateful for the many people who guided him through his childhood, his decision to pursue a teaching career was partially motivated by the impact of his teachers.

In 2005, Alex graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Mathematics degree from Muhlenberg College, where he also volunteered weekly for 4 years at an after-school tutoring program. He received three awards for community service as well as the Muhlenberg College Goodwill Prize for his significant community impact. In 2006, he earned an M.S. Ed. from the University of Pennsylvania and a five-year Teaching Fellowship from the Knowles Teacher Initiative, becoming a Knowles Senior Fellow in 2011.
