Kumar Jawadekar

Kumar Jawadekar (कुमार जावडेकर) is a writer and a shaayar (poet) who has penned and presented stand-up comedies, ghazals (a form of poetry) and plays in Marathi, Hindi and English.

Born in India in 1974 in the state of Maharashtra and an electrical engineer by profession, he migrated to the UK in 2008.

His articles and short stories have been published in leading Marathi newspapers such as लोकसत्ता (Loksatta) and लोकमत (Lokmat). His article 'पु. ल. - अखेरचा अध्याय' on the legendary पु. ल. देशपांडे (Pu. La. Deshpande) gained him fame due to his style resembling the legend and bringing back the nostalgia of his days.

He published his first book 'अन् ग़ज़ल जुळे' ('An Ghazal Jule' - a selection of Marathi Ghazals) jointly with his twin brother 'Ajab' (Dr. Ashwin Jawdekar) in 2007. In addition to this, he has written Hindi / Urdu Ghazals. He loves composing his poems. Some of his Ghazals have also been composed by his brother (Dr. Ashwin) and Vinay Rajwade.

He has translated poems such as 'Imagine' (John Lennon) and 'Miller of the Dee' (Charles McKay).

Kumar published his first English novel 'Two is a Mob' in 2020, followed by a collection of his witty short stories 'निवडक अ-पुलं (थोडं पुलं., थोडं अ-पुलं!)' (Nivdak A-Pula)' in Marathi.

He is famous for his tongue-in-cheek humour and thought-provoking poetry. He has won a trophy for his story in the competition 'पुलोत्सव' ('Pulotsav') arranged worldwide for writing in the style of पु. ल. देशपांडे (Pu. La. Deshpande) in 2020.
