About Vince Gledhill
Vince Gledhill was born (1946) in Northumberland UK. For 45 years he worked as a daily newspaper journalist on stories ranging from murders to incredible acts of heroism, through deeply moving tales of loss and triumph, including the horrors of the Piper Alpha oil rig explosion and the Lockerbie bombing tragedy.
His first book, Cissie, was a memoir written in collaboration with Cissie Charlton, whose sons, Jack and Bobby Charlton, both played for England's World Cup winning soccer team in 1966.
Vince's first novel, Sammy, was published in 2019. It is a work of fiction inspired by the true story of his grandfather, who, as a starving teenager walked 200 miles to survive.
He found work in a coal mine, but three years later, in 1915, answered Lord Kitchener's call for volunteers and joined one of the pals regiments. He was one of just 17% of the pals in his battalion to survive the horrors of fighting in the mud and blood on the Flanders front line.
