Tonya Shevenell

Tonya Shevenell is from Maine. As a little girl, she was obsessed with bunnies and Martians, drawing the weather, and listening to AM radio. She was outdoors a lot and that’s where her imagination learned to play.

It’s still playing!

The Maine Birthday Book is Tonya’s first children’s picture book, but she has been telling stories through independent film and music for years. She owns and operates a small business called Home Ice Productions in southern Maine. She also spends a lot of time in the imaginary hometown of Malibu Maine.

Tonya's second children's book is called Hop Onward Rabbit Rabbit: A New England Cottontail's Journey. It was inspired by real cottontails and features beautiful watercolor illustrations by Laura Winslow. A third book is in the wings!
