John Fitzsimons, was born in Brooklyn New York, the oldest of five children, in a working class Irish Catholic family. He majored in football, basketball, and baseball in high school.His participation in interscholastic athletics led to a college scholarship. He was the first in his immediate family to graduate from college. It was the beginning of a lengthy fifty year career as a pubic school educator. He has served as a teacher, principal, and school superintendent, in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. He holds a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy from Fordham University and has served on the New York City’s District 3 Community Board of Education as an appointee of the Manhattan Borough President. Retired, he now lives on the upper westside of Manhattan with his wife Carol.
