Theodore P. Georgas is a Board-Certified Genealogist (CG®), author, and historical researcher with more than three decades of experience unearthing, verifying, and preserving complex family and community histories.
A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, he is also a licensed professional engineer (PE) and structural engineer (SE). Georgas brings the analytical rigor, structural problem-solving, and methodical discipline of engineering directly to archival scholarship. His research bridges advanced documentary proof, genetic genealogy (DNA), and cartographic reconstruction—translating 19th-century metes-and-bounds deeds, tax collector registers, Sanborn fire insurance maps, and unindexed court dockets into living historical narrative.
Georgas’s geographic expertise spans the United States and Europe. Nationally, he specializes in Illinois (with deep, forensic mastery of Cook and DuPage Counties) and Pennsylvania (including Bucks, Dauphin, Lancaster, and Lebanon Counties), with broad project experience across New York, Ohio, Kentucky, and New England. Internationally, he conducts multi-lingual, cross-border research spanning Germany, Greece, Italy, and France. Deeply connected to his Greek heritage, he has interpreted historical texts, worked with records dating back to the 16th century—particularly across the Peloponnese—and authored an acclaimed history of the mountain village of Pangrati in southern Greece.
In his historical biography, The Life and Times of Frederick Charles Hageman, MD & Family, Georgas traces the multi-generational journey of a 19th-century pioneer physician, early Chicago alderman, and prominent DuPage County landowner. Adhering to the rigorous standards of the Genealogical Proof Standard and Evidence Explained citation methodology, his books unite ironclad documentary proof with gripping, page-turning narrative non-fiction.
Georgas has successfully compiled approved lineage applications for the Sons of the American Revolution, the Chicago Genealogical Society Pioneer Ancestor Certificate, and the Illinois State Genealogical Society Prairie Pioneer Certificate. He serves as Vice President of the North Suburban Genealogical Society and regularly presents illustrated lectures for libraries, historical societies, and civic organizations. He resides in Palatine, Illinois.
