The inspiration for Susan’s “Hamster Tales” series comes from having hamsters as pets starting when her children were young.

Some may think it’s not possible for a tiny hamster to have a big personality. But they do – and each one is unique. Their quirky antics have become the foundation for her endearing tales about Pookie.

Her 4th book, “Pookie’s New Pal”, has been added to the series in 2022. It introduces Benjamin, a talking bird as a houseguest. And mayhem follows!

Pookie’s roommates, Pawsley and Catchoo, a big-footed dog and an allergic cat are loosely based on Susan’s other family members’ pets. Of course, their names have been changed – to protect the guilty!

Susan’s sister Tracey from Chandler AZ is the artist for the black and white illustrations in all four books and her collaboration makes each project special. Tracey’s talent and imagination are evident at the end of each chapter.

Susan and her husband Allen retired a few years ago after working together for 22 years as successful business owners of an independent custom frame shop and art gallery they started in Port Hueneme CA. They won many national awards for their unique and archival framing designs.

Susan and Allen now live in Reno NV with Pookie – their adorable white dwarf hamster.
