Alok Kumar
Alok Kumar is a Distinguished Teaching Professor of physics at the State University of New York at Oswego. He was born and educated in India. Later, he taught at California State University at Long Beach. He has been teaching in the American higher education for about four decades. In Oswego, Kumar has received Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1997, the President Award for Creative and Scholarly Activity or Research, from SUNY Oswego, and about 75 refereed publications. He has authored/coauthored four books: (1) Science in the Medieval World, S. I. Salem and Alok Kumar, 1991 and 1996; (2) Sciences of the Ancient Hindus: Unlocking Nature in the Pursuit of Salvation, 2014; (3) A History of Science in World Cultures: Voices of Knowledge, Scott Montgomery and Alok Kumar, 2015; and (4) Ancient Hindu Science: Its Transmission and Impact on World Cultures, 2019. His work has received excellent media attention, including Reuters, The Press Trust of India, The Washington Post, Family Life, The Scientists, Aramco World, Hinduism Today, Organiser, India Abroad, etc. He is a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany and a NOVA/NASA fellow. He is active in the fields of atomic physics, chemical physics, history of science, and science education.
