Sara Cook

With a professional seamstress for a mother and an uncle who was a Savile Row tailor, Sara was never far from fabric and sewing advice as she grew up.As an adult I honed my creative skills training as a theatrical costume maker in Liverpool. Later, at Glyndebourne Opera House I enjoyed the most demanding and rewarding job in theatrical costuming and there learned a love of teaching.

As a qualified teacher, I established Brighton Fashion and Textile School in 2012 to teach accredited courses and offer City & Guilds qualifications in patchwork and quilting. Training as a quilt judge for the Quilters' Guild of the British Isles meant I was once again a student and could continue to learn even more about the wonderful world of stitching.

Inspired by Chunghie Lee's work, No Name Woman exhibited at the Festival of Quilts in 2009, I became passionate about researching Bojagi and incorporating it into my own working practice. Researching Korean textiles has inspired me to experiment with traditional narrow seams, creating irregular grids combined with transparency to evoke the feeling of light moving across the landscape.
