After years of having cats, my wife Meta and I got our first Siberian Husky, Empress Maya in 2015 as a guard dog. Yes we soon learned that as adorable as Siberian Huskies are, guard dogs they are not. In fairness, when we have visitors the pack certainly lets us know they are there so maybe some redemption.
In 2017 we got Damien Czar from California. He is an out and out poser. He likes to think he's the Alpha - Empress Maya does indulge him but when he get's out of hand, she certainly lets him know who is in charge. That said, they have produced beautiful litters, particularly the March 14th 2019 litter on which this book is based.
'Adventures of Hot Rod Todd' sort of came about by accident. I was chatting with Todd's owner who had sent me photo's of a truck she was going to do up and of Todd at a car/truck show. Jokingly I said "that's a Hot Rod Todd truck" so I started texting some silly stuff like an adventure and then low and behold it morphed into 'Adventures of Hot Rod Todd, Hot Rod Todd to the Rescue'. That's how it began, honestly.
I do think that maybe this was a 'meant to be' moment as when I started talking with friends about my idea they where really excited too. What really decided me was when I sent my elder bro David a rough manuscript with descriptions of how I imagined the page would look. He's sort of a retired, internationally respected TV journalist / presenter / producer who know's his stuff. When he gave the thumbs up I was pretty sure it would be a winner.
The final piece in the jig saw, so to speak, was when I was seeking out an illustrator. Renowned artist / writer / illustrator Cameo Anderson responded to my post offering me valuable advice. We got chatting and to cut a long story short, I sent Cameo my manuscript and ideas and YES, Cameo Anderson came on board. At times, working with Cameo is sort of spooky. I provide ideas and descriptions and hello ........ it's like Cameo can see into my 'minds eye'.
