S.D. Metcalfe

S. D. Metcalfe first published professionally at the age of 15. He was accepted into the University of Wollongong Creative Arts Creative Writing program on the basis of six poems he submitted; studying the art of prose under John A. Scott [Victorian Premier's Literary Award] and Dr Anthony Macris [Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer of the Year, Assoc Professor University of Technology Sydney] and literary theory under Dr John Hawke [Snr Lecturer, Monash University].

He holds a postgraduate degree and professional accreditation in the financial business sector, and in addition to creative writing studied economics and cultural semiotics and theory at an undergraduate level. He also briefly studied jazz guitar at the Sydney Music Conservatorium, and has pursued studies in French and German languages. Shannon has worked in a variety of fields including as a chef and restaurant management, musical performance and events, construction laboring, forklift driving and strategic financial management and analysis. Currently writing full-time, he is also a perfumer who produces fragrances for his own boutique small-business.
